Forensic Scientist
A job in forensic science is mainly laboratory based.
To start a career in forensic science you will need a 2:1 honours degree in your related discipline (chemistry, biology, biochemistry).
On top of your science degree you will carry out a minimum of two years on the job training after which you can become authorised to have your evidence accepted in court and prepare reports for the Crown.
You may also need to attend court and give evidence.
As a forensic scientist it is critical that you :
- Understand the chain of evidence, continuity and corroboration and the custody chain.
- Forensic scientists also need to attend serious crime scenes to either advise or actually carry out the evidence recovery.
