Assistant Scientist
The Assistant Scientist assists in the day to day running of the forensic laboratory, including preparing samples for analysis, operating analytical instruments and interpreting and reporting results of analysis to a team of Forensic Scientists. They may also be required to attend court to provide details of the work they carried out.
Responsibilities of an Assistant Scientist include:
- Preparation of materials, maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Sampling and analysis of routine casework.
- Interpretation of equipment data and test results, drafting reports on these results.
- Attending court to provide details of tests carried out if required.
- Cleaning and general maintenance.
- Maintaining stocks of chemicals and other consumable supplies.
- General administration, filing and storage of materials or forensic productions.
Suitable candidates must have an honours degree (2.2.) in a relevant scientific discipline. Recent practical experience of working in a laboratory and applying forensic techniques is an advantage.
