Scotland Cutover to IDENT1

22 August 2006

The past year has seen the SFS move ahead in the first phases of the IDENT1 project which will establish a technological platform for the first UK-wide fingerprint database incorporating palm capture and search capabililties.

The 'Livescan' machines for electronic capture of Tenprints (fingerprints from those in custody) have been replaced as well as additional machines installed so there are now 41 terminals across Scotland, all capable of capturing palm prints as well as fingerprints. These terminals were introduced in a successful programme across the eight forces in Scotland and to date have processed in excess of 90,000 tenprints.

The Scotland cutover to IDENT1 is expected to be achieved mid December 2006. A thirty day period of operational service in Scotland must elapse from date of cutover to verify that the new system meets Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance and availability requirements. Satisfactory completion will be a major step towards the declaration of the Baseline Operational Service (BOS) milestone being achieved (expected mid January 2007).
