About Us

In July 2006 the Police, Public Order and Criminal Justice (Scotland) Bill was granted Royal Assent.  This Act contained provisions for the establishment of a new Scottish Police Services Authority (SPSA) which would provide services in a common and corporate manner to all Scottish Police Forces and the wider Criminal Justice System.  The Act also made the provision for the creation of a new Scottish Forensic Service.

Introduced in April 2007, the Scottish Police Services Authority provides expert policing and support services to the country's eight police forces and criminal justice community.

It plays an important role in the effectiveness of modern policing by providing criminal records, forensic services, specialist ICT (from 2008), training - including the Scottish Police College - corporate services and specialist officers and staff for the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency.

The creation of the SPSA Forensic Services pulled together our existing forensic and fingerprint capability and Scene Examination Officers, placing us at the forefront of evidence capture and analysis.  By making these significant changes we provide, for the first time a fully integrated Scottish national service from ‘crime scene through to court'.

The integration of these specialist forensic solutions gives us a unique opportunity to create a world class forensic service.

This modern and contemporary style to delivering police support services will enhance effectiveness, consistency and focus, developing our specialist skills in the areas most required by our customers throughout the criminal justice system.
